Weekly Golf Recap: February 3rd - February 9th, 2025

The week of February 3rd to 9th, 2025, was marked by notable events in professional golf, with the PGA Tour's WM Phoenix Open taking center stage.

PGA Tour: WM Phoenix Open

The WM Phoenix Open, held at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, particularly at the par-3 16th hole, which is transformed into a stadium-like setting. This year, Belgium's Thomas Detry delivered an exceptional performance, securing his first PGA Tour victory with a commanding seven-stroke lead. Detry's consistent rounds of 66, 64, 65, and 65 culminated in a 24-under-par total.

American golfers Daniel Berger and Michael Kim tied for second place at 17-under-par, each displaying commendable skill throughout the tournament. Jordan Spieth and South Africa's Christiaan Bezuidenhout shared fourth place at 16-under-par.

A highlight of the tournament was Jordan Spieth's remarkable recovery on the 11th hole during the final round. After his tee shot landed in a bush, Spieth executed a left-handed shot with a right-handed club to escape the hazard, ultimately saving par. This impressive feat drew admiration from fans and commentators alike.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, the PGA Tour moves to California for The Genesis Invitational, scheduled from February 13th to 16th at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. This event is anticipated to attract a strong field, with players eager to compete on the challenging course.

In the realm of LIV Golf, attention shifts to the upcoming tournament in Adelaide at The Grange Golf Club. With over 100,000 fans expected, the event promises an electric atmosphere. Players like Cameron Smith, familiar with the course, are anticipated to perform well.
